Probate

Probate is the process of administering a loved one’s Will. If they did not leave a Will, the process is called obtaining Letters of Administration.

Executors named in a Will sell or transfer the loved one’s assets, pay off the debts and give the balance to the beneficiaries. An Executor or Personal Representative, if they did not have a Will, can do it themselves if they wish to or if the estate is straightforward. Alternatively, you can use a solicitor if the estate is complicated, for example, if there is inheritance tax to pay to the Inland Revenue.
